Train personnel responsible for acquisition and deployment to recognize counterfeit components. Awareness is the first line of defense against counterfeits.
Example 1: Provide anti-counterfeit awareness training to your procurement, receiving, and IT staff. Cover how to identify common indicators of counterfeit products: misspelled labels, inconsistent serial numbers, different packaging than expected, and suspiciously low prices from unauthorized sellers.
Example 2: Share industry resources on counterfeit IT components, such as reports from GIDEP (Government-Industry Data Exchange Program) and SAE International counterfeit avoidance standards. Require receiving staff to follow a verification checklist for every hardware delivery.
