Supplemental Guidance
The implementation of automatic environmental controls provides an immediate response to environmental conditions that can damage, degrade, or destroy organizational systems or systems components.
Practitioner Notes
This enhancement requires automatic environmental controls — your HVAC and cooling systems should adjust automatically to maintain proper conditions without requiring manual intervention.
Example 1: Configure your precision cooling unit to automatically adjust cooling output based on real-time temperature readings. Set it to increase cooling when the temperature rises above 72°F and alert facilities staff if it cannot maintain the setpoint.
Example 2: Use a building management system (BMS) to automatically control HVAC for your server room. Configure the BMS to switch to backup cooling units if the primary unit fails, send alerts for any environmental exceedances, and log all temperature and humidity data for trending and compliance reporting.
