Supplemental Guidance
Authorized and qualified personnel within the jurisdiction of the organization include state, county, and city fire inspectors and fire marshals. Organizations provide escorts during inspections in situations where the systems that reside within the facilities contain sensitive information.
Practitioner Notes
Your facility must undergo regular fire protection inspections by qualified inspectors, and any deficiencies they find must be fixed within a defined timeframe.
Example 1: Schedule annual fire protection inspections by your local fire marshal or a certified fire protection inspector. Address any deficiencies they identify within 30 days. Keep inspection reports and remediation records in your compliance files.
Example 2: In addition to official inspections, conduct monthly internal fire safety walkthroughs. Check that fire extinguishers are accessible and current (check the inspection tag), exit routes are clear, fire doors are not propped open, and sprinkler heads are not obstructed. Log findings on a checklist.
