Practitioner Notes
This enhancement extends emergency lighting to all areas that support essential mission and business functions — not just exit routes. If your server room loses power, staff need to see what they are doing during emergency response.
Example 1: Install battery-backed emergency lighting in your server room, network closets, and security operations areas. These lights should activate automatically and provide enough illumination to read labels, identify equipment, and safely work during a power outage.
Example 2: Provide flashlights or headlamps in emergency kits located in the server room and key operations areas. Include these items in your emergency equipment inventory and test batteries quarterly. This supplements fixed emergency lighting and helps during extended outages.
