NIPRNet
NIPRNet (Non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network) is the DoD's network for transmitting unclassified but sensitive information. While not used for classified data, NIPRNet is still a controlled environment with security requirements — it's not the open internet.
Many DoD applications and services run on NIPRNet, and contractors frequently need NIPRNet access to interact with DoD systems, submit deliverables, or access government-furnished resources. NIPRNet connectivity requires compliance with DoD connection approval processes.
Why It Matters
NIPRNet access is common for defense contractors. Understanding the connection requirements and security obligations helps you plan for the approvals and security measures needed to connect your systems to DoD unclassified networks.
