Controlled Technical Information (CTI)

Controlled Technical Information (CTI) is a category of CUI that includes technical information with military or space application that is subject to controls on access, use, reproduction, modification, performance, display, release, or disclosure. CTI is one of the most commonly encountered CUI categories for defense contractors.

CTI includes research and engineering data, engineering drawings, specifications, standards, process sheets, manuals, technical reports, and similar technical data. If you work with technical drawings, specifications, or engineering data for defense projects, you're likely handling CTI.

Why It Matters

CTI is CUI, which means it triggers CMMC requirements. Recognizing that your technical drawings, specifications, and engineering data likely qualify as CTI/CUI helps you properly scope your CMMC environment and ensure this data is protected.
